Lilia, 17, a withdrawn student in a Tunisian boarding school, thinks herself exemplary. The school, which boards both boys and girls, but separately, is run under strict rules that sometimes flirt with the absurd. Rima, a new student – eccentric, dressed in the latest fashions, at ease in her body, beautiful and jovial – joins the girls’ boarding school. She attracts the interest and suspicion of the other students. Lilia despite her reserve, acquaints herself with this ‘Lolita’ who never stops surprising her.
Rima discovers the conservative atmosphere that reigns over the school. Lilia who was used to following the rules, sees her school with new eyes. The two become closer and closer. Lilia is fascinated by her audacity, fervor, beauty and liberty. Qualities which are looked down upon by her friends, the teachers, and supervisors.
Rima leads Lilia through adventures that she is not accustomed to. She tastes the forbidden fruit of rebellion, but always with an aftertaste of guilt and fear fed by the school system.
Lilia finds herself in tricky situations; jealousies and misunderstandings come up between the two friends.
Lilia, fed up with the Rima’s recklessness, secretly loathes her for having brought her along into her revolt, until the day she catches Rima kissing the boy she secretly likes. Her fascination transforms into a grudge. Lilia denounces Rima before the authorities in the school and Rima is summoned by the head master; things turn venomous and Rima finds herself humiliated and expelled.
Lilia is demoralized. Emptiness. Nothing. Everything returns to being drab and colorless.
Lilia uses her father’s authority (an influential person with a sulfurous reputation) to bring Rima back to the school. The two girls are reconciled. But Rima swore vengeance on the supervisors and Lilia helps her to plan her revenge.
They slip their little grains of sand in the school’s machinery; the authorities are rattled.
Students go out on strike and chaos invades a little world which was once so orderly. Rima disappears throughout the repression of the students’ insurrection. It is whispered that she was killed, Lilia in panic tries to resolve the enigma…
