A Story Of A Palestinian Gangster Print

Karam is a Palestinian documentary filmmaker who spends her time filming the chaotic situation that is ruling Palestinian lives. She is also now taking care of her terminally ill father whose dying wish is to visit what used to be his home in Haifa. A house, which is now inhibited by an Israeli family.

Yet, Karam’s life soon gets interrupted when she gets kidnapped by Abu-Dahab. A famous Palestinian gangster who is known for his criminal activities as a professional thief in Israel and Palestine.

Abu-Dahab kidnaps Karam because he wants her to make a film showing that his criminal activities are really patriotic acts. He insists that he never usually steals from Palestinians except if he has to due to Israeli closures that make it difficult to go to Israel. Otherwise, his targeted population is usually Israelis living in what used to be Palestinian homes.

Karam tries hard to resist Abu-Dahab’s demands. But all her argument are in vain because Abu-Dahab is convinced that "the outside world" and that is the world outside the camp, will only listen to someone like her and not to a poor refugee living in a refugee camp.

Forced into the situation Karam starts filming Abu-Dahab who sees himself as the Robin Hood of the Palestinians.

While still being held in the camp Karam finds out that her Dad’s situation is deteriorating and that he might pass away before fulfilling his wish. It is at this moment that Karam makes a strange proposition to Abu-Dahab. She asks him if he would burglarise her grandparent’s house in Haifa and if she can film him while doing that.

This strange turn of events which suddenly, transforms Karam into a gangster who is participating in the cycle of violence.

“A Story of a Palestinian Gangster” is a film about the human need to resolve the past. It is a film about the cycle of violence which is created by war. It is also a film that questions ethics in times of conflict. All of this is done through an interesting eventful narrative, which is humorous but at the same time able to present reality in its naked form.
