Patrick Mc Donald joined Business Affairs in Bord Scannan na hEireann / the Irish Film Board in May 2000. During his time at the Irish Film Board he was involved in the financing and production of a large number of projects including Bloody Sunday, Magdalene Sisters, Intermission, Damian O’Donnell’s Inside I’m Dancing and Paddy Breathnach’s Man About Dog. The Count of Monte Cristo, Reign of Fire, Disney’s King Arthur, and John Boorman’s Country of My Skull.


Paddy left the Irish Film Board in 2004 to become a partner in Treasure Entertainment one of Ireland leading production companies. That year he also set up his own production company Rubicon Films Limited.


In 2004 he produced The Mighty Celt, starring Robert Carlyle and Gillian Anderson with worldwide sales by The Works, it was backed by BBC Films, the Irish Film Board, the NIFTC and TV3. It premiered at the 2005 at the Berlin Film Festival.


He went on to produce the horror film Shrooms in 2006. This was directed by Paddy Breathnach, Capitol Films are handling international sales. The film was financed by Ingenious Media, IFB, NIFTC, Nordisk, TV3 and BVI. The film began its theatrical rollout beginning in the Autumn of 2007. It received its world premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival.


In 2006 he also acted as Executive Producer the Irish Film and Television Award winning TG4 series The Running Mate a ground breaking comedy drama based upon an idea by leading Irish playwright Conor Mc Pherson which aired in the Autumn of 2007.


Paddy is currently developing a very broad slate of feature. Upcoming projects for 2008 include Conor Mc Pherson’s dram The Eclipse which is slated for production in Spring 2008 and Paddy Breathnach’s Swordland which is being written by Kevin Brodbin (Constantine) slated for production in Spring 2009.


Paddy has served on the Film Committee of Screen Producers Ireland.

In the summer of 2007 Paddy won the Sundance Institute Independent Producers Conference pitching competition.
