Paris 2006, Momo, a young Tunisian illegal immigrant has been living in Paris for a few years, under the protection of his cousin, a pimp on Saint-Denis street. He misses his mother and would like to go and visit her back home in Tunisia, but without papers, it is impossible.
He meets Mohamed who is French of Algerian origin, a homosexual and dying of AIDS. Mohamed wants to bequeath his ID, house and car to an illegal North African immigrant, a way for him to survive his disease. By keeping his death a secret, he also wants to punish his mother who rejected him because of his homosexuality. Momo accepts to take on Mohamed’s identity and promises to comply with his last wishes before his death. Mohamed dies. Momo is trapped.
According to Mohamed’s will, he has to dress up as a belly dancer on the dead man’s birthday and scatter his ashes on the customers of the cabaret where Mohamed used to give a show. Momo is confused. His new identity suffocates him. He feels manipulated by Mohamed’s spirit.
When he meets Mohamed’s mother and senses her pain, Momo is tempted to tell her the truth, but is afraid of the consequences. Mohamed’s birthday is looming up and Momo is faced with a dilemma: to betray the promise he made to a dead man, or to go against his own principles and execute Mohamed’s will.
